The Definitive Guide to
Disney's Riviera Resort
The European Riviera Comes to the EPCOT Resort Area — A Complete DVC Resort Guide
Resort Overview
Disney's Riviera Resort opened on December 16, 2019 as the 15th Disney Vacation Club property and represented a significant departure from the DVC program's tradition of attaching villas to existing resort hotels. The Riviera Resort is a fully standalone DVC resort, built on new grounds adjacent to Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort in the EPCOT area, with its own distinct identity, dedicated amenities, and architectural concept. The resort takes its creative inspiration from the glamorous European Riviera of the early 20th century — specifically the resort towns of the French and Italian Mediterranean coasts that attracted the European artistic and intellectual elite in the 1920s and 1930s. The resulting design language is sophisticated and art-forward, featuring Mediterranean architecture, curated artwork throughout the resort inspired by Disney's European adventures, and an overall aesthetic that feels distinctly European in its refinement. The Skyliner gondola system connects the resort to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, making it an excellent choice for guests prioritizing those two parks.
Location and Transportation
The Riviera Resort sits in the EPCOT Resort Area near Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, connected to the greater Walt Disney World transportation network via the Disney Skyliner gondola system. The Skyliner is the resort's signature transportation mode and one of its key advantages — guests board gondola cars directly outside the resort and travel to EPCOT's International Gateway or to Disney's Hollywood Studios in minutes, offering a smooth, scenic, and uniquely pleasant commute. The Skyliner also connects through Caribbean Beach to Blizzard Beach and several other Skyliner-served resorts. Disney buses serve Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs. The Riviera Resort has its own dedicated Skyliner station, which is a meaningful advantage over resorts that require walking to a shared station. The gondola system functions until approximately 10:30 PM on most evenings, making it reliable for late park departures. The overall transportation from the Riviera is excellent for EPCOT and Hollywood Studios access and reasonable for Magic Kingdom.
Theming and Atmosphere
The Riviera Resort's aesthetic is the most art-forward and culturally sophisticated of any DVC property. The resort was designed to evoke the sense that Disney characters — in the style of artists and writers of the early 20th century — might have gathered at this Riviera resort for creative inspiration. Original artwork created specifically for the resort depicts Disney characters in settings reminiscent of European Impressionist and Art Deco paintings: Mickey and Minnie strolling along a coastal promenade, Goofy relaxing on the beach, and other scenes rendered in the style of European masters. The lobby features a soaring atrium with Art Deco details, Mediterranean tile work, and a warm, sophisticated palette. The rooftop restaurant and terrace offer panoramic views across the Walt Disney World Resort. The entire resort has the feel of a European grande dame hotel — elegant, cultured, and slightly more grown-up in its sensibility than most other Disney properties. Families with older children and couples particularly appreciate the Riviera's aesthetic maturity.
Villa Categories and Room Types
The Riviera Resort offers an unusually comprehensive range of accommodations including Tower Studios, Studios, One-Bedroom Villas, Two-Bedroom Villas, and Three-Bedroom Grand Villas. Tower Studios are a unique category within the DVC system — compact studio rooms specifically designed for two guests, featuring a king bed, a small sitting area, kitchenette, and the basic DVC amenities in a more economical footprint. These are ideal for couples seeking the DVC villa experience without paying for space they will not use. Standard Studios accommodate four guests. One-Bedroom Villas sleep five guests with full kitchen, king master bedroom, whirlpool tub, washer and dryer, and living area. Two-Bedroom Villas accommodate nine guests. Grand Villas sleep twelve guests across three bedrooms. Views from the higher floors include partial or full views of EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios, with Spaceship Earth and the iconic park skylines visible on clear days — the rooftop level views are especially dramatic.
Recreation and Amenities
The Riviera Resort's main pool area is the Riviera Pool — a beautifully designed leisure pool with a waterslide, hot tub, zero-entry section, and Mediterranean-inspired poolscape featuring tile work, archways, and lush landscaping. A quiet pool offers a calmer alternative. The pool area includes dedicated children's splash features and poolside bar service. The fitness center is excellent — one of the better equipped at any DVC property — with modern cardio and strength equipment in a well-designed facility. The Riviera's rooftop terrace provides an extraordinary outdoor space for watching the EPCOT fireworks on nights when the show is running; the elevated position across the resort area provides broad visibility of the pyrotechnics even without park admission. The resort's spa and wellness services are available, and the overall property is designed with adult recreation in mind alongside family amenities. A dedicated game room provides indoor entertainment options for families on rainy afternoons.

Dining: Topolino's Terrace, Bar Riva & Promenade Market
Topolino's Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera is the resort's signature dining experience and one of the most acclaimed new restaurants to open at Walt Disney World in recent years. Located on the rooftop of the resort, Topolino's serves French and Italian Riviera-inspired cuisine with masterful execution — the breakfast character meal, featuring Mickey and friends in artist outfits, is particularly beloved for its intimate atmosphere and high quality food. Dinner at Topolino's is equally impressive, with a menu of sophisticated Mediterranean dishes and an exceptional wine list. The rooftop setting provides views across Walt Disney World.
Bar Riva is the resort's pool bar and casual quick-service spot, serving Italian-inspired sandwiches, salads, and pizzas along with cocktails and beer. The Promenade Market offers grab-and-go snacks, coffee, and light meals. The proximity to Caribbean Beach Resort adds its dining options to the accessible neighborhood, and the Skyliner to EPCOT places one of the greatest concentrations of restaurants on property within easy reach.
